Leeds Marathon This Sunday: Plan Extra Time for Travel Across the City

Thousands of runners and spectators are expected in Leeds Marathon this Sunday, 10 May, with significant road closures and travel disruption anticipated across Leeds throughout the day.

Motorists are being advised to allow extra time for journeys, particularly around the city centre, Headingley, Otley, Kirkstall and other areas along the marathon route. Public transport services may also be diverted or delayed while the event is underway.

Organisers of the Leeds Marathon say roads will begin closing early on Sunday morning, with some restrictions remaining in place until late afternoon as runners complete the course and clean-up operations take place.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to:

  • Check travel routes before setting off
  • Use public transport where possible
  • Leave extra time for appointments and journeys
  • Expect heavier traffic near key viewing points and event zones

The marathon is expected to attract large crowds and deliver a major boost to the local economy, with supporters lining the streets to cheer on participants throughout the day.

Drivers travelling into Leeds on Sunday should monitor official travel updates and event guidance before travelling.
